One topic that I am truly passionate and fascinated about is losing weight without starving yourself. As a nutrition coach I hear all the time from people that they aren’t eating much food, but can’t seem to lose weight.

Diet culture gives the understanding that you have to starve yourself and be miserable in order to lose weight. Let me say, that is not true and that is not sustainable. Just like a motor vehicle, our bodies need fuel to give us energy throughout the day. When you want to lose weight you do need to be in a caloric deficit where your body is burning more calories than you are consuming, but you do not need to be in such a deficit that you are in starvation mode. A 20% caloric deficit is sustainable and won’t leave you feeling miserable and seeing no results.

I’ve had clients come to me who have been in such a deficit that they are irritable, miserable, have no energy and have plateaued. In just a short amount of time of increasing their caloric intake to get to that  20%, they have seen significant weight loss and increase in muscle.

In Episode 17 of the Getting Healthy With Cis Show I do some myth busting on this topic and share a few case studies from past clients. You can listen to the full episode on all major streaming platforms like Apple Podcast and Spotify or watch on YoutTube.
