What pressures has culture put on you to feel like you need to look a certain way? Do you ever feel like you have to restrict your food intake to reach that image standard? Diet culture is a compilation of the expectations around food and weight. Culture has set an image of what being “thin” looks like and in many cases, this leads to unhealthy tactics to try to achieve that.
I sat down with Melinda North, Lead Nutrition and Mindset Coach at Portside Fitness in Gulf Port, Mississippi in my most recent podcast episode to discuss how diet culture has failed us and how a new mindset can help you see long term success.
This standard of “thin” will always create a feeling like you never look good enough. In some cases, we find ourselves trying different diet plans that are super restrictive and hard to keep up with, resulting in a feeling of failure. This cycle continues as you wind up losing some weight and then gaining a lot right back.
Melinda has been able to help around 300 clients over the past 10 years as a Nutrition Coach and she’s found that a mindset shift can change someone's perspective on their weight loss journey to look and feel healthy by how they feel versus how society defines that we should look.
